4-star hotels in Brussels: where to stay, from the centre to the EU Quarter

Brussels has more than 70 4-star hotels — properly filtered, with no apartments or B&Bs skewing the count. These 14 are spread across the historic centre, the Sablon, Louise, the EU Quarter and Saint-Josse/Rogier, with real month-by-month prices and reviews from verified guests.

Is this category for you?

A 4★ in Brussels is the typical choice for a business trip, conference, or meetings near EU headquarters: chain-hotel predictability, breakfast sorted, and a location built for moving around on a workday. If you're traveling for sightseeing, five of the fourteen are in the historic center or the Sablon, 350-800 m from the Grand Place; if budget comes first, a well-located 3-star hotel or a downtown apartment may suit you better.

The 4 neighborhoods of the 4★ hotels

Map of Brussels

EU Quarter — EU headquarters, ideal for business trips.
Saint-Josse / Rogier — Close to the centre, a good budget base.
Schaerbeek — Residential area to the north, lower prices.
Ixelles / Flagey — Neighborhood life, local bars and restaurants.
Louise — The shopping avenue, elegant and well-connected.
Saint-Gilles — Art nouveau and a young vibe, close to Midi.
Midi — Next to the station, convenient for Eurostar/Thalys.
Anderlecht — The most affordable: worth choosing carefully.
Molenbeek — Across the canal, the lowest prices.
Etterbeek — Residential, right next to the EU Quarter.
Watermael-Boitsfort — The greenest, next to the Sonian Forest.
Uccle — Quiet and residential, in the south of the city.

Distances for each neighborhood are measured in a straight line from the Historic Centre (Grand Place) — walking or public transport always takes a little longer.

Cinquantenaire Arch in Parc du Cinquantenaire, EU Quarter, Brussels

1. EU Quarter / Schuman EU headquarters

Nearly one in five of Brussels's 4★ hotels is here: it's the neighborhood with the highest concentration relative to its size — around two and a half times what you'd expect — and the second in raw numbers, behind downtown. It's the neighborhood of the European institutions, with Parc du Cinquantenaire right next door. Ideal if your meeting is at the European Parliament or the Commission; less practical if you're after classic sightseeing, since the neighborhood empties out on weekends.

Jardin Botanique and modern towers in Saint-Josse, near Place Rogier, Brussels

2. Saint-Josse / Rogier Closer to downtown

Steps from Brussels-Nord station and a 10-15 minute walk from the Grand Place. A good middle-ground option: 4★ chain hotels with the convenience of the EU headquarters area, but not as far from the historic center as the EU Quarter itself.

Guild houses and the Town Hall on the Grand Place in Brussels

3. Historic centre / Grand Place For sightseeing

The neighbourhood with the most 4★ hotels in the city, and the only one that makes sense if you're here to sightsee: Fleur de Ville, OPO, Pillows City and Novotel City Centre are 350-500 m from the Grand Place, and NH Collection Grand Sablon 800 m away, in the antiques district. It comes at a price: the centre is the most expensive of the four areas, especially from April to July.

Buildings and shops along Avenue Louise, Brussels

4. Louise / Toison d'Or Shopping and business

The luxury-shopping avenue, 1.2-1.8 km from the Grand Place (20-25 minutes on foot or a short tram ride). This is where you'll find The Hotel Brussels, the most-reviewed hotel in the city, and the Thon Bristol Stephanie: big hotels with spacious rooms, made for people combining work and shopping rather than classic sightseeing.

How much a 4-star hotel costs in Brussels

A good 4★ runs €125-185 a night for most of the year; those in the historic centre tend to sit in the upper half of that range, and those in the EU Quarter and Saint-Josse in the lower half. Unlike a beach destination, the month barely moves the price here — what matters is the day of the week: weekdays tend to match or exceed weekend prices, especially during weeks of heavier institutional activity in the EU Quarter. If your trip doesn't depend on weekday meetings, shifting it to a weekend can work out cheaper.

Frequently asked questions

Are the EU Quarter's 4-star hotels far from the tourist center?
They're 1.2-2.5 km from the Grand Place — walkable but not immediate. If your priority is classic sightseeing rather than meetings in the EU area, a hotel in Saint-Josse/Rogier (closer to downtown) may suit you better.
Why are there so few hotels with parking on this list?
In Brussels, most business trips arrive by train or plane plus public transport, so several 4-star hotels in the EU Quarter don't prioritize parking. If you need a car, filter by that amenity when booking.
Is it worth booking a 4-star hotel in Brussels early?
The price doesn't vary much by season, but there are occasional weekday spikes tied to institutional activity. If your trip coincides with a session week, booking ahead avoids those spikes.
Are there 4-star hotels in the historic centre of Brussels?
Yes, and they're the best-rated on the list: Hotel Fleur de Ville (9.4), OPO Hotel (9.2) and Pillows City Hotel (9.1) are 350-500 m from the Grand Place, Novotel City Centre is 400 m away and NH Collection Grand Sablon 800 m. They cost more than those in the EU Quarter or Saint-Josse, especially from April to July.
