Brussels-Midi is the international station: Eurostar to Paris, London, Amsterdam and Cologne, plus Belgian trains to Bruges, Ghent or Antwerp. Of the 50 properties we track, seven are less than 1.3 km away as the crow flies: between 3 and 17 minutes on foot with a suitcase.
Yes, if you arrive late or leave early by train, if you are in town for a single working day, or if you are combining Brussels with Bruges, Ghent or Antwerp and the train matters more to you than the Grand Place (which is still a 20-minute walk or one train stop away).
Less so if you want to step out of the hotel straight into the old town, or if you are spending several nights with children: the station area is practical rather than pretty, and at night it is best to head straight to the hotel. For that there are the hotels near the Grand Place.

The station has two very different sides. Towards avenue Fonsny, in Saint-Gilles, are the B&B HOTEL Gare du Midi and the First Floor apartment, 200-300 m away, and from there the art nouveau district of Saint-Gilles begins. On the other side, already in Anderlecht, are Urban Yard (on Square de l'Aviation) and Hotel Van Belle on chaussée de Mons; Hotel Barry and Hostel Bruegel are halfway between the station and the Grand Place, and Citadines Toison d'Or, an aparthotel, is on the Louise side, 1.2 km away.
Getting around: metro lines 2 and 6 and trams 3 and 4 leave from the station itself; the Grand Place is one train stop to Brussels-Central or a tram ride to Bourse, and about 1.7 km on foot. On Sunday mornings the Midi market fills the whole esplanade: it is one of the biggest in the city and worth it if you happen to be there.
Coming by car: Hotel Van Belle has a garage (20 € a day, reservation required) and the First Floor apartment lists public street parking at 10 €, and Hotel Barry has a garage (25 €, reservation required); B&B Gare du Midi, Urban Yard and Hostel Bruegel have no parking; Citadines has public parking in the building (22 € a day).
