Is staying right by the Grand Place the right call?
Yes, if you are here for a day or two and want to do everything on foot: Manneken Pis, the Galeries Saint-Hubert, the Bourse, Sainte-Catherine and Central Station are all 200 to 600 m away. It is the area with the most supply in the city and the only one where a 2-star hotel or a hostel genuinely competes with a 4-star on location.
Less so if you are coming by car (the centre is largely pedestrianised and only three of the eleven have parking), if you want quiet (the bar streets around the square stay lively at night) or if your trip is business in the European Quarter: there, look at the 4-star hotels in the EU area.

What staying next to the Grand Place is like
The square sits at the heart of the Pentagon, the historic centre enclosed by the Petite Ceinture boulevards. On foot, 1 km is 12-15 minutes: everything on this page fits on one screen of the map below. Brussels-Central station (trains from Zaventem airport in about 20 minutes) is 400 m away, and the De Brouckère and Bourse premetro stops 300-400 m.
Three things that change from hotel to hotel. Noise: The Moon, 150 m away, is on the bar street running down from the square; Fleur de Ville and OPO are on quieter streets on the Sainte-Catherine side. Parking: only Hotel Barry, Pillows City and NH Collection Grand Sablon have a garage (25 to 36 € a day); for the rest there are the Grand-Place and Écuyer public car parks, two or three blocks away. Price: a 4-star here starts at 116 € and tops 270 € in high season, while a 2-star or a private hostel room runs from about 70 to 165 €.

- It depends on the street. The ones running down from the square towards the Bourse and rue de la Montagne have bars open late; the Sainte-Catherine side and rue du Fossé aux Loups are calmer. Either way, asking for an inner-facing or high-floor room solves most of it.
- How much more does the centre cost?
- For 4-star hotels the centre runs 116 to 279 € a night depending on the month, against 85-225 € in the European Quarter and Saint-Josse. For 2-star hotels and hostels there is almost no difference: The Moon is around 69 € and Hostel Bruegel 68-101 €.
- Can I get there by car?
- You can, but the centre is largely pedestrianised and only three of the eleven have a garage. The practical option is to leave the car in a public car park (Grand-Place, Écuyer) and not move it: everything is done on foot or by metro.
